The crowd for CRAOLA’s latest show, Stop Haunting Me, at Merry Karnowski Gallery was huge and deservedly so. The large space on LaBrea was packed all night with gallery-goers standing shoulder to shoulder and gathered in groups around the art work, bugging out and expressing admiration for the artist’s imagination. As is the usual, fans snapped digital flicks with their smartphones as momentos of the occasion, this one celebrating 20 years of CRAOLA’s sublime surrealism. The eclectic crowd is proof of the reach of his artwork, crossing boundaries and blurring lines between hi-low genre definitions. The range of artwork presented in the exhibit shows his growth both in technique and subject matter, and one can imagine where the next phase of his career will take him, as he expands the complexity and richness of his compositions.
Dytch has been putting in work at La Brea near San Vicente getting a string of walls recently. Today we captured TEWSR at work with DYTCH putting up a greyscale production done in a 3D wildstyle that has a strong pink line running over the letters in perspective. It is going up next to a wall bearing a Cant Be Stopped spell out by Dytch Self and Dcypher done recently.

Each piece was started by Thanks, and then given to the collaborating artist who then added their part to canvas, resulting in an array of styles all unified by Thanks’ colorful abrstract style. At the gallery there was live body painting by the Girls Gone Graff crew and music for the event was provided by DJ’s Otek and Hectik of Huskey Radio. August has been a busy month for the IWUZHERE! crew. After a few production delays we released our Yard2Yard Los Angeles graffiti tee shirts and have been promoting them on a city-wide tour. Saturday night was the third stop for us, and this event took place in the Fairfax District at the Melrose Alleys. The painting went on all day, and as the sun went down, our friends at Powerplant Motorcycles threw the switch so we could crank up the proceedings.
The Can’t Be Stopped crew painted the alleyway and the yard was given a fresh coat of color by GASO MTA WCA, FEAR UTI DCV, THANX WAI UTI, and MANDOE MAK K4P. VERBLE and EXISTERO and some GRIMM IMAGE records friends along with LA JAE and DJ1987 held down the entertainment. Continue reading →
